BLS Instructor

Course Overview

 

The BLS Instructor Course prepares qualified candidates to become certified American Heart Association (AHA) instructors, authorized to teach and issue certification for the BLS Provider Course and Heartsaver® courses. This comprehensive program is ideal for healthcare professionals, emergency responders, or experienced CPR providers who are passionate about teaching life-saving skills.

Through a combination of online pre-course work, classroom instruction, and hands-on facilitation practice, candidates will learn how to effectively teach, evaluate, and manage BLS training sessions in accordance with AHA standards. The course also emphasizes professionalism, communication, and adherence to AHA training policies.

Course Objectives

 

  • Understand the AHA instructor role, responsibilities, and policies
     
  • Learn how to deliver high-quality BLS instruction using standardized materials
     
  • Demonstrate effective facilitation, coaching, and student assessment
     
  • Gain the skills to provide feedback and remediation to learners
     
  • Prepare to align with an AHA Training Center and begin teaching independently

Course Prerequisites

 

  • Current AHA BLS Provider certification (must be valid at the time of enrollment)
     
  • Successful completion of the AHA BLS Instructor Essentials Online Course (certificate of completion required before classroom session)
     
  • Acceptance by an authorized AHA Training Center for instructor alignment

Course Length

 Approximately 6–8 hours (including classroom and practice teaching) 

Certification

 AHA BLS Instructor Certification (valid for 2 years)
